Skate park Success

For the third   time this year  South Petherwin Parish Council  organised  the NCDC Skatepark event at South Petherwin Community School. On  Sat 18th  Oct between 10 am and 1 pm children of all ages,  4-15 yrs,  pedalled and skated their way around the Skatepark.  The Skatepark arrived at 9.00pm  on the back of a long trailer . Two  NCDC recreation officers unpacked it and layed out the various ramps, half pipes, grind rails, bikes and skateboards. An array of safety gear from helmets to knee, elbow and hand pads  are all part of the standard skatepark  equipment.    Everything was  ready to go  by 10.00am, with or without music, all the park needs is young people.

Young people came from Tregadillett, Launceston, Coads Green, North Hill and from South Petherwin and  they  all had something to say about the event.    Callum Masters and Jack Quinn  from South Petherwin said it was, “good fun, come back soon,” Morwenna Masters  and Lilly Warden  said, “really good, come again. “ Matt Harrison  and Joseph Tibbetts from Tregadillett gave it 10 out of 10 and said it was “wicked , cool” . Jake and Louis  Madelin from North Hill , “enjoyed every minute of it.”   The  parents commented,  “well organised  and supervised event,  boys really enjoyed it, brill idea, really worth coming for, roll on the next one, kids loved it ”

Phil Parsons,  Parish Council Chairman and organiser, commented, “ This was once again a  very successful event with over  fifty young people having a go on their  bikes or BMX’s and Skatebaords. It was   a very simple event to arrange with all the health and safety issues,  equipment and training  covered by the NCDC recreation officers. They  are excellent with the young people and great fun to work with.  As a Parish Council  we hope to run future events like this next year on a regular timetable.  Neighbouring parishes have expressed an interest in hosting the Skatepark, possibly  rotating the venue. I would like to thank  South Petherwin School for hosting the event, NCDC officers for running it and all the young people and parents for supporting a , “really fun day “.  “
